Support & FAQ
Piano Ink is currently in pre-release testing. Test builds may still be named PianoLevels or Piano Levels. These instructions describe the planned 1.0 app.
Need help? Email contact@minuit-ai.com with your app version, device model, and a short description of the problem. Please do not send passwords or payment information. Only attach recordings you have permission to share.
What can I transcribe?
Record with the microphone, choose an audio or video file, or import supported YouTube and SoundCloud links. Piano recordings give the most useful piano scores; dense mixes, background noise, and overlapping instruments can reduce accuracy. Only process music you have the right to use.
What is included for free?
The free plan includes piano transcription, score and falling-notes reading, audio and MIDI playback with the bundled sound, practice loops, speed control, and key/time-signature corrections. It allows eight successful new YouTube or SoundCloud imports in a shared seven-day allowance. Opening a saved song or retrying a failed analysis does not consume another import. Local files and microphone recordings do not use this allowance.
Imported media can be up to 30 minutes on the free plan. Piano Levels Pro removes the weekly online-import allowance and supports imported media up to 200 minutes, subject to device resources. Pro also unlocks transposition, PDF, MusicXML and MIDI export, and optional downloadable soundfonts. Prices, billing periods, and any trial terms are shown in the app before purchase.
How do I read and practise a score?
Choose Score for native notation or Falling Notes for the piano roll. Focused score mode gives the music more screen space; choose vertical scrolling or pages. Use the playback slider to move to a passage. Audio plays the recording, MIDI plays the score, and Mix lets you hear both with separate volumes. Loops repeat a selected passage; changing speed does not alter its pitch.
Can I correct the time or key signature?
Use Edit score in the native score view. A time-signature correction recomputes the beat grid and score; a key-signature correction regenerates the score with that constraint. Wait for the update to finish. Corrections are saved in the song archive. Automatic removes a forced signature and recomputes the result; it is not a multi-step edit history.
What is the difference between the export formats?
PDF is a printable score with paper size, bars-per-line, and notation-size controls. It uses the native score renderer and includes the displayed transposition. MusicXML is editable notation in concert pitch. MIDI contains the score-derived notes in concert pitch, separate staff tracks, and timing information—not the raw audio transcription. Import MusicXML into a notation editor or MIDI into music-production software. Results can differ between applications.
How do saved songs and iCloud work?
Save important songs to Saved Songs; History is local. Enable Sync saved songs and playlists in Settings to synchronize saved archives and playlists privately through your iCloud account. Keep enough device and iCloud storage available. Close an edited song to let its finished archive synchronize. When two devices edit the same song independently, both versions are kept as conflict copies.
Turning sync off does not delete existing cloud copies. See the privacy policy for deletion instructions. Files shared as .pianolevels archives can be opened by the app.
How do I restore or cancel Pro?
Use Restore purchases on the upgrade screen while signed into the Apple account that made the purchase. You can manage or cancel your subscription in Apple’s subscription settings. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. If a purchased soundfont does not appear, check your connection and restore Pro, then try the download again.
How do I request a refund?
For Piano Ink purchases billed through the App Store, submit your refund request directly to Apple:
- Open reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with the Apple Account you used for the purchase.
- In the “I’d like to” menu, select “Request a refund.”
- Select the reason for your request, then choose Next.
- Select your Piano Ink purchase or subscription and choose Submit.
Apple decides whether a purchase is eligible for a refund. Allow 24–48 hours for an update, then check the status on the same website. If approved, the money may take additional time to reach your payment method.
If the purchase is missing, check which Apple Account appears on your receipt. For a pending charge, wait for Apple’s email receipt before requesting a refund. See Apple’s refund guide for more help.
If you no longer want Pro to renew, also cancel your subscription in Apple’s subscription settings.
An analysis or export failed. What should I do?
Keep the app open until processing finishes, check available storage, and try a shorter section. Preserve the original recording before trimming or editing. If the issue repeats, tell support which step failed and whether it affects one song or every song. A screenshot of the error helps; sending the song itself is optional.
